Jim Eldridge

I have been a professional writer for 40 years.

I have had over 250 TV scripts broadcast, both in the UK and internationally; and 250 BBC Radio 4 scripts broadcast. My television work includes “The Ghost Hunter”, “Julia Jekyll and Harriet Hyde”, and the sci-fi series “Powers” amongst many others. His radio work includes the long running BBC Radio 4 series “King Street Junior”, and the comedy classic “Parsley Sidings”.

I have had 78 books published, mainly for children and teenagers, which have sold over 2 million copies. My recent books include the “Disgusting Dave” series; the “Black Ops” series; the “My Story” series of historical fiction, and many more.

I was born in London in 1944. My wife and I live in Cumbria, England.

After leaving school at 16, I worked in a variety of jobs (stoker at a blast furnace, production line worker, clerk, transport manager; etc) before going to teacher training college. I taught in a variety of schools, primary and secondary, working particularly with children with reading difficulties. It is my despair at the rising rate of illiteracy (particularly amongst boys) and my passion for encouraging children to read that is behind much of my work as a writer for children and teenagers.
